Offer Description

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. Thanks to its location in the Rhine-Main science region, the university can exploit its full potential and showcase its innovative power and dynamism. Its status as a comprehensive university allows for multidisciplinary learning and teaching, in turn paving the way for internationally renowned, interdisciplinary research. Almost all of its faculties and departments are located on a single campus close to the Mainz city center, creating a lively academic culture for researchers, teaching staff, and students from all over the world.

The Institute of Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Media, and Sports
and the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research (LIR) jointly invite applications for the position of

University Professor of Clinical Psychology and Neuroscientific Resilience Research
beginning on October 1, 2024.
Salary grade W 3 LBesG | Civil Servant (tenured)

Tasks and expectations:
We are looking for a candidate who conducts excellent research into the connections between clinical psychology – including its biopsychological and neuroscientific foundations – and sound resilience research based in neuroscience. The successful candidate should be knowledgeable in a broad spectrum of neuroscientific methods (e.g., imaging, psychophysiology, neuroendocrinology) and rely on modern analytical and predictive methods (e.g., AI-based classification methods, machine learning). Experience with longitudinal research studies and a research-based focus on neuroscientific resilience mechanisms are desirable. The Institute of Psychology expects the future professorship holder to teach the biopsychological foundations of psychology and the neuroscientific foundations of clinical psychology in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Furthermore, the professorship is key for the implementation of the university teaching and practical occupation-oriented study components required to obtain a license to practice medicine in accordance with the amended German Psychotherapist Law (PsychThG). Associated with the chair is a university outpatient clinic for psychotherapy and neuropsychology pursuant to section 117 of the German Social Code Book V (SGB V), for which the professorship holder will be responsible for management tasks. The successful candidate should be able to present high-caliber international publications, interdisciplinary research practices, successful acquisition of third-party funds – in particular in collaborative research – as well as the qualification to teach at the university level and a dedication to innovative teaching. We also welcome experience in the leadership of research groups and research alliances. A willingness to contribute to the development of the content and structure of our degree programs is also expected. The professorship also comprises the permanent role of heading an independent work group at the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research.
