While 6G is still in the early stages of research and development, it is expected to bring several advancements: better throughput, lower latency, automation of the network management and support for new use cases for communication. In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a pivotal catalyst for innovation within the telecommunications sector as an integral part of making the networks smarter and meet the new challenges to deliver the expected performance that far exceed networks of today. The alignment between AI and 6G holds immense promise for creating a more connected, sustainable, and inclusive future.
You'll get the opportunity to
We are interested in automating L3/L2 operations related to cell set selection and load balancing, which heavily impact the provided quality of service and resource allocation. Currently, cell selection and handover mechanisms are rule-based and depend on local measurements at the user side, but a promising idea is to make use of the large availability of measured features to better guide the best cell/frequency association. Most of the previous artificial intelligence (AI) approaches use Reinforcement Learning (RL) methods. Recent research in generative AI models (e.g. transformers, diffusion models, etc) for RL-based environments demonstrates that these are more stable to train, have higher performance, and better adaptability to evolving environments. In this offer, we are looking for a candidate that will design generative RL models for the above L2/L3 applications.
