Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, during this completion contract, your tasks are:

  • Development of methods for evaluating next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, stochastic modeling and interactive visualizations of complex data structures.
  • Publication of research results in international scientific journals.
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences.
  • Completion of your dissertation within the next 6 months.
  • Participation in the group’s administration and teaching activities.

The position is limited to a duration of 6 months and is planned to be filled from 01.10.2024. 

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion within the next 6 months.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration, if necessary.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master's/Diploma degree in the field of mathematics
  • First practice in scientific writing and with molecular-genetic research methods
  • Didactic skills / experience in e-learning
  • IT knowledge (programming languages R and Python, basic knowledge of C++, implementation of interactive user interfaces such as Shiny)
  • Knowledge of:
    o    mathematical modeling, especially stochastic (Markov) processes
    o    applied statistics and Markov Monte Carlo simulations.
    o    numerical optimization
    o    Application and interpretation of phylogenetic tree reconstruction software
    o    NGS data analysis, especially dimensionality reduction, trajectory analyses, data integration across different modalities
    o    Developmental biology, models of cell type differentiation





  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility, willingness to learn and travel
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of academic processes and structures
  • Teaching experience in courses for Master’s students
