Offer Description
Geoinformation can provide important insights into many of the global challenges we currently face, like climate change, sustainable development, or human and planetary health. Our ambition is to provide useful geoinformation, knowledge, products, and services that support the work of diverse stakeholders, both in the Global North and South. New opportunities to collect, integrate, process, and analyze geodata from heterogeneous sources are vital to achieving this ambition. This requires handling an ever-increasing volume and diversity of geodata and using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to gain an understanding of many complex systems. You will strengthen and extend our activities in engineering interoperable solutions for geodata integration and management, as well as the analysis and modelling of geographic data and information.
You will work at the intersection of geodata engineering and geospatial analysis in Earth and environmental sciences. Your central theme will be the development of methods and the engineering of solutions to collect, store, integrate, and analyze heterogeneous geodata, in both data-rich and data-scarce environments, while considering and promoting the ethical use of geodata in an open science environment. You will help shape our R&D agenda and ambitions, connect with colleagues in-house and abroad to build teams and consortia, identify relevantly project opportunities, and develop proposals for funding in the domains of research, education, and institutional strengthening. You will have regular interactions with staff and PhD candidates to build and sustain an overview of expertise available and support the ambitions of the University, faculty, and the department towards 2030.
