Offer Description
The Terahertz Devices and Terahertz Systems Laboratory offers a doctoral position (full-time E13, 100%) initially for a limited period of 36 months with a planned start on 01.10.2023 as part of the project „Understanding non-equilibrium spin-charge transport mechanisms towards high power and antenna-coupled spintronic terahertz devices (HIGH-SPINTERA)“, which is funded by the German Research Foundation. The project is carried out together with the University of Bielefeld and another group at TU Darmstadt. The subject of the research activities are obtaining a detailed understanding as well as the development of spintronic Terahertz range (100 GHz-10 THz) devices. These devices consist of an optically partially transparent metallic layer stack that is excited with lasers in order to produce Terahertz waves. Besides operation as pulsed source, the project also targets for investigating these devices as pulsed receivers and continuous wave sources and receivers. The focus of this PhD thesis with the consortium is on embedding the spintronic layer stack into antenna structures, optimizing the propagation of the generated Terahertz wave and the integration of the device in handy packages for experimental applications. The spintronic devices will be processed in the institute’s clean room facilities. Further activities include the characterization of the processed devices and the integration into setups for carrying out applications. The results shall be published at conferences and in journal articles. The work is carried out in a team with two further doctoral students in a friendly, international research atmosphere.
